♦ Lectin avoidance diets also go under the name of autoimmune protocol (AIP for short).
♦ Most American chicken and beef contain antibiotics within them, so although you might not be taking antibiotics, you may still be indirectly consuming them.
♦ When NSAIDS such as ibuprofen were first introduced in the 1970s they were considered so harmful that they were only available under prescription.
♦ PPIs are terrible in general as one study showed a 44% increase in risk of dementia, and are also linked to chronic kidney disease. Additionally they prevent proper protein digestion, allowing more lectins (which are proteins) to survive their journey to the intestinal wall.
♦ The author does not recommend that healthy people completely eliminate gluten from their diets unless they know they have a sensitivity to it. If you starve your gut bacteria of gluten for a long period of time, the ones that digest it will eventually die off, and you might have issues with it once you inevitably consume gluten at some later point.
♦ If you are sensitive to casein A-1 in milk, you can try A-2 milk, which some companies sell. Or just consume goat and sheep products instead, which don’t contain casein A-1.
♦ Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) found in whole wheat binds to glucosamines in our joints, so by taking exogenous glucosamine you can prevent the WGA from attacking your joints if you happen to ingest whole wheat. This also means that a simple way to test if you are being afflicted by WGA is to try taking glucosamine and see how your joints feels.
♦ WGA is actually an incredibly tiny lectin, which easily passes through the intestinal wall even if your gut health is good. According to Steven Gundry, in addition to binding to our joints and cornea (as mentioned in the video), it also binds to fat cells and causes them to grow larger, it blocks muscle cells from receiving sugar, and causes both kidney inflammation and atherosclerosis.
